As autumn falls upon us….

Fall isn’t just a season — it’s a full mood swing of the universe. The world begins to dim its lights, and suddenly everything feels a little slower, softer, and stranger. It’s a wonderful feeling as we experience our first fall at The Answer, watching the landscape transform before our eyes.

Blueberry Mountain now shows more of its rugged rock face, the leaves have turned brilliant shades before drifting to the ground, and the lake — still shining — carries a certain quietness without the hum of people and the dogs splashing about as they did all summer.

Living off-grid changes with the season. For us, it’s more than self-sufficiency or shrinking our carbon footprint — it’s about deep connection. Fall reminds us that we don’t just live in nature; we live with it. Each day begins with the weather forecast, guiding our rhythm. Sunshine means energy, and that means laundry gets top billing in the morning. Cloudy day? Time to shift priorities. Out here, even the chores are conversations with the elements.

As the air grows colder, preparation becomes a ritual. We cut and stack wood, weatherproof windows, and string up solar lights to guide the long nights ahead. Every task is an act of care, ensuring that when the snow finally arrives, we’ll be warm, powered, and ready — cozy by the fire, hot tea in hand, watching the world turn prepare to be blanked in snow.

This summer was full of joy, with friends and family discovering The Answer for the first time. Many fell in love with our little valley — a magical micro-environment all its own. As visits slow and we edge closer to winter (and yes, fingers crossed the snow holds off until after November 24th — still waiting on those snow tires!), we’re feeling grateful, grounded, and just the right amount of weird.

So here’s to the season of layers, warm drinks shared indoors with friends, and proudly flying your freak flag — preferably hand-knit.

Stay warm. Stay weird.
