From Driveway Trees to Lumber Piles
Quite a few trees came down last summer when we widened the driveway. Removing trees isn’t something we take lightly — the forest is part of what makes this place what it is — so if a tree comes down, we want it to have a second life.
Instead of cutting everything into firewood, we decided to mill some of the logs into usable lumber.
There’s something deeply satisfying about watching a rough log turn into clean boards right there on the property. Hidden inside what looked like an ordinary tree is beautiful grain, fresh pine scent, and future projects waiting to happen. Fence boards, signs, shelves, benches, maybe even future cabins — who knows. Tiny off-grid empire pending 😌🌲
One of the things we love most about this lifestyle is how connected everything becomes. The trees from the driveway don’t just disappear. They become part of the next chapter of the property. A board milled this spring could end up as part of a guest space years from now.
That feels meaningful in a world where most things are built to be temporary.
